Search Engine Results Page Google Rank #1 First Page Search Engine Results Page Google

NO ONE Can Guarantee #1 Spot on Google – NOT EVEN GOOGLE

Disclaimer:  I must admit writing this while I’m recovering from strep throat & really pissed off.

I saw something this morning, that I usually only see from scam artists or newbies that don’t know any better.  It’s usually from an unscrupulous company just trying to make a buck.  But this was an established local website agency.

A bus turned in front of me.  On the side of this bus was an ad.  As I published my first ad when I was 17 (I’m now fabulous fourtysomething) – I pay attention to ads.

The headline:

Want to Rank #1 on Google? Call “Unscrupulous-Person-You-Should-Never-Call.*”

* Name changed to protect the extremely effing guilty.

What-the-actual-fuck.

No one.  Not me.  Not Google.  No one can guarantee you #1 or even First Page of Google.

From Google’s own page

No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.

Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a “special relationship” with Google, or advertise a “priority submit” to Google.  (Google)

Look, I am excellent at consulting 5, 6, 7 figure businesses on things we can do to improve their organic rankings and search engine results.  I’m excellent at improving a company’s digital marketing.  I’m excellent at making mobile friendly sites that read well on a phone, tablet, and a computer and helping companies convert visitors to engaged buyers.  But I will never guarantee you a certain ranking.

You should run away from any person or business that peddles this B.S..

One of my new (as of this year) clients paid a high price to a service that called him up, promised pie-in-the-sky results.  He paid them, monthly, for years for an ugly site that didn’t represent his business or help his business at all.  When he finally showed me what they had done, I was almost in tears for him.  (Yep.  I’m a bosslady with a high degree of empathy.)  I’ll be showing off our work on his business very soon.  But man… at least his scam company was an actual scam company.

The ad on the bus was from an established company with a decent reputation!  (Shame. Shame! *ringadingding*)

I hoped writing this would make me feel better.

Nope.

Still pissed.

Another bit from Google:

Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue.

Amazingly, we get these spam emails too:

“Dear google.com,
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories…”

Reserve the same skepticism for unsolicited email about search engines as you do for “burn fat at night” diet pills or requests to help transfer funds from deposed dictators.

Hehehe.  Even Google gets ’em.

I’ll probably include a rant on this subject in an upcoming video or podcast.  But for now… Here’s the official word from Google Webmasters.
